#12 – From me, to you. A musical gift!

Heyo! This one’s going to be a real quick ‘un (I think).

To cut straight to the chase, I made you guys a little musical gift! It’s a playlist of all my favourite music discoveries from 2015-2017. *Scroll down below to play*

I listen to most of my music on Soundcloud and this morning I felt compelled to clean it up, name it something HIGHLY original (‘2017’) and share it with you guys.

Music is a great way to get to know someone. By sharing my taste in music with you, I thought perhaps we’d be able to connect on a deeper level. I tend to characterise people by the kind of music they listen to. If someone listens to heavy rap I immediately think, ‘oooooh shiiie step back this person has an inner gangsta side to them’. Or if they listen to hardstyle beats I think, ‘doofdoof muzz gabba c walk shuffle untz untz brrt skrtt defqon marlow BOOMBOOM’.

Haha I KNOW I’m blatantly stereotyping here…. but hold up! I know I’m not the only one who thinks this way. I know you guys characterise people, like I do, too!

(I’ll be interested to hear whether your thoughts of me have changed/reaffirmed what you think of me after listening to the playlist.)

Aside from it being a brilliant mechanism to characterise people, I find music extremely intimate and therapeutic. I love how songs can evoke certain emotions and they conjure memories of a place, a person or a particular moment in time. I love those spontaneous moments of “OMG I LOVE THIS SONG” when you recognise a tune playing at the shops, or at a bar, or when you’re in someone else’s car. They’re my favourite kind of moments.

I also find it really touching when I receive music recommendations. Something about the process of knowing that she/he played a song which reminded them of me, and then felt compelled to share the discovery with me is really flattering. I think it’s the spontaneity and thoughtfulness of the gesture that makes me feel so appreciative (I don’t feel like I’ve explained this properly, but I hope you get the gist).

Ok I’m going to end it here cos it’s time to start groovin’! Go on, hit the play button!
